Who Can Be Submitted?

Do you have a family member who was an early pioneer or settler in the Verde Valley?

You don't need to research their history or write a biography. Simply tell us what you know. Provide the information you have, along with a photograph and any helpful website links, and we will use it as a starting point for research. When enough information can be documented, we will prepare a biography for the Verde Valley Pioneers Archive.

Already have a completed biography? You are welcome to submit completed biographies at any time. There is no limit on the number of completed biographies you may submit.

The Verde Valley Pioneers Archive focuses on preserving the stories of the early people who helped establish the Verde Valley and its communities.

Step 2: Complete the Questionnaire

Complete as much of the questionnaire as you can. Don't worry if you don't know every answer.

Step 3: Email Us the Form and a Photo

Email the form and a photograph of the person or gravesite. No photo, no problem.

What Happens Next?

Once we receive your submission, we will do the research.

We may use the information you provide to locate historical records, newspaper articles, cemetery records, genealogy records, photographs, and other reliable sources.

We will then determine whether enough information can be documented to prepare a biography for the Verde Valley Pioneers Archive.

You provide what you know. We research the story.

Information must be sufficiently documented to meet the research and publishing standards of the Verde Valley Pioneers Archive. We may contact you if we need clarification or additional information.

If you want full control of the writing process, just email the biography along with a photo.


Yes. Families are welcome to obtain a QR Marker through the engraving business of their choice (Trophy shops, awards stores, online engravers). Verde Valley Pioneers has successfully worked with Laser Etched on Main Street in Cottonwood, Arizona. 
Verde Valley Pioneers can also assist with obtaining one for approximately $25 plus shipping if needed. 

If the pioneer is buried in a Verde Valley cemetery and you live outside the area, our volunteers may be able to place the physical QR code at the gravesite for you. Contact us for more information.

If the pioneer is buried outside the Verde Valley and you purchase an engraved metal QR code from us, we will mail it to you for placement at the gravesite.

No, the Verde Valley Pioneers archive is free to access for everyone interested in learning about the history of the Verde Valley.

Yes. Biographies can be updated as new information, photographs, or historical records become available.

Yes. The goal of the Verde Valley Pioneers Archive is to connect a pioneer's gravesite to their life story.


Shortly after your biography is published, we will email you the direct link needed to create a Verde Valley Pioneers QR Marker. Once the marker has been placed at the gravesite, please email us a photograph within 30 days. We will then add the biography to our Biographies page and begin promoting it through the Verde Valley Pioneers website and social media.
